There is just over a week until the start of the 2015 New South Wales Rally Championship. The 2015 season is set to kick off at a brand new location in Glen Innes, on Saturday, March 28.
Rally New England organisers have put together a 120km, four stage rally to be run on fast and free flowing local roads throughout the picturesque New England countryside. Â
The rally is expected to bring hundreds of people to the region including competitors, service crews, event officials, media and spectators.
Local resident and long-time rally enthusiast, Chris Judge, has been instrumental in getting this event off the ground, working tirelessly for the past 18 months. The event has been well received by the overwhelming majority of the community and should provide good economic and social benefits to the region.
Â
As the opening round of the 2015 Gary’s Motorsport Tyres NSW Rally Championship, competitors will be looking forward to starting the year off on a good note. The event has attracted a full field of 50 competitors, coming in from far and wide. Quite a number of Queensland based teams will be competing at the RNE, which for some gives the event a ‘State of Origin’ feel about it.
Reigning NSW Champion, Meng Cheung from the ACT, will be back to defend his title in the Honda Integra, whilst Ian Menzies from Queensland, who finished the 2014 QRC in second place, is another competitor to watch in his Mitsubishi EVO 6.
For lovers of classic rally cars the event has attracted a good field of stunning vehicles, including the awesome looking and sounding Audi Quattro S1 driven by Mal Keogh, which will be out amongst the obligatory Escorts and Datsuns.
For spectators there will be plenty of opportunities to check out the crews and their cars in the Service Centre at the Glen Innes showgrounds and also at the Ceremonial start on Saturday morning in Bourke Street plus there will be a great spectator area on one of the stages.
