Gawler Town Council recently gave approval in principle for Gawler Sports and Community Centre to become the host venue of a community event as part of the 2013 Scouts Rally SA.
The proposal, which is currently undergoing final approval, will see the best drivers in Australia battle it out as East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship and South Australian Rally Championship competitors tackle a specially designed super special stage around the Community Centre ovals and buildings, and on closed roads nearby.
It will also see the Centre transformed into an exciting community event, with local service clubs and the local community all involved in bringing this event to life.
It is expected the stage will attract thousands of spectators, and return over $1 million dollars of economic benefit to Gawler and the surrounding area.
Gawler Town Mayor Brian Sambell said “As Mayor of the Town of Gawler I am very excited and appreciative that Scouts Rally SA have offered to start this year’s event in our town. Gawler and its community have always catered for events in a very positive way and I hope that Gawler’s community will support this exciting event in our town.”
Scouts Rally SA Clerk of Course Ivar Stanelis said "this stage at Gawler is another example of our team working together with the community for mutual benefit. We look forward to putting on a show for the people of Gawler and surrounds with this exciting new stage."
