It’s rally week in Bathurst with the second round of the 2009 Pipe King Southern Cross Rally Series, the Bathurst RSL Rally of Bathurst, due to be conducted this weekend.

To give locals more of an insight into the sport of rallying,  and in particular, the Bathurst RSL Rally of Bathurst, the organisers, AMSAG, have organised several activities during the week to increase public awareness.

Event director David Aitichison was in Bathurst on Saturday last to release the Spectator Guides for the event, and they are now available at the Bathurst RSL Club. The spectator instructions are free of charge, as is admission to the spectator areas within the Sunny Corner Forest, where the rally’s 240 kilometres of competitive driving will be conducted.

Starting off Rally Week will be scrutineering of the local entrants’ cars. They will be checked for safety, eligibility and compulsory safety items at Robinson Auto Repairs on the Vale Road between 5.00 and 6.00pm.

On Wednesday, some of the competing drivers will be at the Kelso High School at 11.00am to speak to students about rallying in general, and showing them their cars. One of the events major promotions is a competition for RSL club members, where the winner will receive a ride over a special stage of the rally on Sunday morning at 10.20am in the forest. The draw for that competition will take place at the RSL Club at 5.00pm Wednesday.

On the eve of the rally on Friday, a parade of several of the competing cars will take place. The parade will commence at the National Motor Racing Museum at 4.30pm, and proceed to the RSL Club car park via Panorama Avenue, William and Howick Streets.

Motorsport fans are urged to get out and give them a cheer as they pass by. Who knows, it may be the last time some are seen in such pristine condition after two days on the toughest and hardest fire trails in the Sunny Corner State Forest.

That evening, commencing at 7.00pm, again at the RSL Club, the competitors will be arriving and getting the event documentation checked by officials.

On Saturday morning, the first rally car will be flagged away from the rear entrance of the Bathurst RSL Club at 8.00am, with others following at one minute intervals.
