The new organisation behind next year’s International Rally of Queensland (IROQ) has been confirmed as Rallycorp Pty Ltd and several key appointments have been made since the change to a new promoter for the event was announced on November 5.
Rallycorp is a CAMS-owned commercial entity responsible for professional management and promotion of various rally events, including the Australian Rally Championship.
The following initial IROQ appointments have been confirmed:
Organising Committee Chairman Wayne Kenny
Clerk of Course Brian Everitt
Deputy Clerk of Course Malcolm Bartolo
Event Secretary Julie Lucas
Commercial Manager Errol Bailey
Officials Co-ordinator Mike Verall
Media Manager Chris Nixon
Marketing Manager Jennifer Dowd
IROQ will continue to be based on the Sunshine Coast and the new promoter Rallycorp has already taken steps to establish the continuing support of the event’s long-term government partners, Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Tourism and Events Queensland.
Next year’s event will host Round 2 of the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship, Round 3 of the Australian Rally Championship and supporting categories.
The direct involvement of Rallycorp and appointment of highly-qualified officials meet the need for increasing levels of professionalism in rally sport promotion, says Wayne Kenny.
“All of our officials are very experienced at World Rally, Asia Pacific or Australian championship level. Many are Queensland-based and have already been involved in the management of IROQ and we hope there will be many more former officials who want to stay on the team. At the same time, there is now an invitation for ‘new blood’ to join the organising team.
“Rallycorp’s appointment by CAMS – which is delegated by the Federation International de l’Automobile to nominate the Australian APRC organiser – takes the promotion and organisation of IROQ to the highest level.
“We have an opportunity to build and secure for the long term Queensland’s only international motor sport event and, with the World Rally Championship and Formula 1 grand prix, one of just three FIA championship rounds staged in Australia.
“Through its global dedicated television coverage, IROQ delivers unmatched promotional exposure to the Sunshine Coast. We’re dedicated to growing that exposure at every opportunity through our new organisation.”
The new IROQ officials will now start planning in their own areas and seek more officials to join their teams.
