A showcase of grassroots motorsport, World, Australian and State Championships, will take place on Sunday, 17 January in Ipswich with the running of the inaugural Rally Sport Expo.
The day, which is being promoted by the Queensland Motorsport Museum, is designed to be a showcase for rallying in Australia with everything from businesses through to championships, teams, events, etc. invited to take part.
The Rally Sport Expo is an integral part of the greater Rally Sport Exhibition being run from January 2 to February 14.
"This is a chance for all supporters of our great sport to come together to share ideas, promote teams, parts, championships, themselves and showcase rallying as the great sport that it is,” event organiser Mark Johnson said.
“We are hoping to have a mix of some iconic Group 2 and Group 4 Datsuns, Ford Escorts, Toyotas, an ex-Auriol Celica Gt4 on display. Other cars we are hoping to attract include a couple of Murray Coote's cars, a famous ex-London to Sydney car that's not seen the light of day since the event, and possibly the largest collection of Group B cars ever displayed in Australia.”
“In the future it would be fantastic for the day to be similar to ‘RallyDay’ in the UK but this will be a work in progress. We are relying on the generosity and the support of the rally community in Australia to make it a success.”
The event will run from 9am to 3pm with a small admission charge of $5. The Queensland Motorsport Museum Rally Exhibition will also be open on the day.
