The hills around Noojee will come alive when the final round of the 2014 East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship, Rally Victoria, will be contested next weekend. Past Rally Victoria winner and reigning Australian Junior Rally Champion, local Glen Raymond, will be competing in a Mazda RX7 but not his own as seen previously.
Seeded car 4 in the SKY Refrigeration Mazda RX7, the naturally-aspirated rotary will fill the countryside with a unique noise, revving to 9,500 RPM.
Peter Schey of SKY Refrigeration has supported Raymond for the last 18 months, with Schey being so impressed with Raymond’s Mazda RX7 he built his own for rallying and now has handed the keys to Raymond for the event.
“I have no doubt the spectators will love this car,” stated driver Glen Raymond. “It is the oldest car in the field, but one of the best presented. I am thankful that Pete Schey has given me the opportunity to drive his car, and I hope to put on a show.”
“I’m excited to have Raymo in the car,” said business and car owner Peter Schey. “I have no doubt he will do the car justice, and it also gives SKY Refrigeration the chance to use the ARC as a marketing tool.”
With regular co-driver and brother Matt Raymond driving in the Victorian Rally Championship section of the event in his own Hyundai Excel rally car, the experienced Kate Catford has stepped into the car to call the notes for Glen.
“I can’t wait to team up with Glen,” said Catford. “Although it is our first event together, I have no doubt we will surprise a few with the car’s pace but most importantly we will have bucket loads of fun.”
Rally Victoria will be held on the 14t & 15t of November. Spectator information can be found at www.rallyvictoria.com.au.
The team will be supported by SKY Refrigeration and Raymond Partners Accountants.
