After a mechanical issue caused their Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V to leave the road and retire on the third last stage of the Coffs Coast Rally, this weekend, (July 30 to August 1), sees the ASPnet Rally Team competing in Round 5 of the Australian Rally Championship on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The International Rally of Queensland is a round of the 2010 Asia Pacific Rally Championship, Australian Rally Championship and the Queensland Rally Championship along with hosting categories for Classic and Club competitors and has a field of over 80 cars entered. Rally Headquarters is based at the Surfair Resort on the beach at Marcoola with all the rally action happening on Saturday and Sunday in the forests surrounding Imbil. Friday night sees the addition of a tarmac Super Special Stage in the Sunshine Coast Industrial Park at Caloundra.

Driver Steve Tonna commented, “It’s been a lot of hard work getting the car repaired since our off at Coffs, but thanks to Hinterland Smash Repairs, Cheesecake Motorsport, Dorn Industries and our regular service crew, the car is as good as new and I’m excited about getting out there and competing on an event I know well.”

For this event, regular co-driver Lorelle Tonna is stepping out of the car to take on the Team Managers roll, and will see regular Team Manager, Pete Graham, step into the co-driver’s seat.

“I just wanted to have some relaxation and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get covered in dirt and grease and also watch my husband compete,” says Lorelle. “It will be interesting to see how Steve performs with someone else in the car and if Pete can find anywhere where Steve can improve.”

Pete Graham slides into the co-driver’s seat with a vast array of competition experience. “Steve and I competed in a QRC round last year to carry out some testing and found we worked well in the car together, so I’m grateful to Steve and Lorelle for letting me back into the car to compete at this event, and we’re hoping for a good result.”

ASPnet Rally Team are sponsored by ASPnet, Hinterland Smash Repairs, Cheesecake Motorsport, Coast CV & Suspension, Chiptorque, Rolin Imports, Dorn Industries and would like to thank them for their ongoing support.
