Expatriate Ulsterman, Kevin Shaw, will contest three rounds of the World Rally Championship this year, with Queenslander John Allen calling the pacenotes.

Sydney-based Shaw has been a regular competitor in the Australian Rally Championship in recent years, but suffered a setback last year when he spectacularly rolled his Lancer in WA’s Forest Rally. The car subsequently burnt to the ground.

He then purchased Martin Lintott’s ex-Top Run Racing Lancer Evo 7, and this is the car in which he will contest the Rally of Argentina, the Rally of New Zealand and Rally Ireland.

“The car has just been fully rebuilt by Neil Allport Motorsport in New Zealand, and is about to be sent to Argentina (May 4-6),” Shaw said today.

Shaw has put an entry in for the first round of the ARC, the Rally of Queensland on the last weekend in March, but at this stage isn’t sure if he’ll make the start or not.

“I have spoken to Alan Heaphy from Mitsubishi Ralliart about renting a car for that event, but I am still waiting to hear back from him,” he added.

“Hopefully I’ll be able to do two or three ARC rounds this year, as well as the three WRC rounds, so it will still be quite a busy year.”

Shaw has also had preliminary discussions with Neal Bates about the prospect of running a Group N (P) Toyota Corolla in at least one round of the ARC this year.
