Shepheard and McCarthy want more champagne
- 4th November 2011, 4:16pm
After the biggest event of their rally careers, Steve Shepheard and John McCarthy finally get back in the fight next week in the final round of the 2011 Australian Rally Championship (ARC) series.
“Winning our first ARC round at Rally Australia at the last round, in front of such a huge crowd, was just amazing, but like any competitor, once the celebrations die down, you just itch to get back behind the wheel so next week's Rally Victoria can't come soon enough," said driver Steve Shepheard.
The SACHS Rally Team have been over the car top to bottom since the win, including a bit more engine development on the Evo X. "We have found a few more horses to stuff under the bonnet, and that suits the Victorian flowing roads well," said team principal, George Shepheard.
Bringing home a win and the extra exposure that goes with it, has been a great vindication for the SACHS Rally Team and their sponsors, and just at the right time of the year, ahead of next year's program. Team Manager, Reg Shepheard, had the pleasure of letting the team sponsors know about the win.
“They were as stoked, as we were with the win, as it's not just about the brand exposure with all of them, they enjoy the sport and really get involved in the thrill of it all. We hope we can all put together the same program for 2012."
So what of the final round next week? “Amazing flowing roads, a lot like some of the Coffs stages actually, roads that reward really fast, attacking driving" are Shep’s descriptions.
The SACHS team are an outside mathematical chance at winning the series, but the team will just run their own event, aiming to win, and see what happens with the series front runners, Ryan Smart and Justin Dowel as they fight it out.
“We are not really watching the series points," said McCarthy. “We are just focusing on the event, and will see where that puts us at the end."
Rally Victoria jumps to life next Friday, November 11, at ‘Lardner Park’ on the outskirts of Warragul.
