The SACHS Rally Team’s ‘UNRESTRICTED’ Evo X will be ready for a full attack on the 2012 BOSCH Australian Rally Championship, starting with round one, the East Coast Bullbars Rally Calder from March 1-4.

After finishing third overall in the 2011 series, and securing their first ARC event victory in the Coffs Harbour WRC / Forest Rally, Steve Shepheard and co-driver John McCarthy are itching to get back on the dirt, especially at the revolutionary new Stadium event at Calder Park race complex right on Melbourne’s door step.

“Calder is going to a blast: gravel, tarmac, mixed surface stages, the NASCAR Thunderdome, all right there in Melbourne,” said Steve.

McCarthy is super excited about the team’s pace as well. “During the second half of last year we stepped our pace up to our quickest ever, so we want to continue that push to the front.”

The final event of 2011 saw the boys end with a light roll over after trading times with four-times ARC champ Simon Evans, so the car has undergone a full ground up rebuild over the summer break.

“We have given it a full respray, engine and drivetrain rebuild, so after a good shakedown Steve and John can attack Calder aiming for number one,” said team principal George Shepheard. “And we have been working to get the car’s weight down as well. The Evo X has heaps of power, but the trade off is they are a bit heavy, so we are trimming her right down.”

The team are working on a new signage/livery package, so when the boys turn their wheels at Calder on March 1, the whole SACHS Rally Team package will be lighter, more powerful and fresh for 2012.
