SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross – test drive dates announced
2015 is going to be a massive year for Australian Motorsport as it signals the launch of our very own National Rallycross Championship.
RallyCross is the world’s fastest growing motorsport. A mix of Rally and Supercross, Rallycross is wheel-to-wheel racing, huge jumps and fast paced action. Rallycross tracks feature a combination of surfaces and with up to 10 cars competing on track at once, the action comes thick and fast.
“For drivers there is no other motorsport in the world that’s more exciting. Racing side by side at over 160km an hour with 9 other drivers only millimetres apart is sure to get your attention,” explained David Ridden, managing director, Global Rallycross Australia.
“Add massive jumps, a combination of dirt and tarmac and there is no other racing that puts a driver’s skill to the test as much as Rallycross.”
The tight, temporary circuits also mean that for the fans, Rallycross events offer a unique and unparalleled viewing experience.
“Rallycross events are designed to deliver non-stop action and exciting racing with no lengthy breaks between races,” David said.
“From go-to-whoa every round is guaranteed to be one big party. This is great for sponsors, teams and drivers as the event program has been designed to let fans get up close and personal with their favorite drivers, as well as providing the opportunity for sponsors activate right in the heart of the action.”
Three different classes will run at each of the seven rounds of the SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship, two-wheel drive non-turbo, 4WD Turbo and the premier class the Supercar Lites.
“The Rallycross Supercar Lites are wild cars,” he remarked. “These things are purpose built race cars all of which come out of the world famous Motorsport factory, Olsbergs MSE.
Running through the specifications, it quickly becomes apparent that these will be fast, fun and safe.
“Starting with a tubular spaceframe, the team at Olsbergs MSE add a naturally aspired engine that punches out 310BHP and 300Nm of torque. Next comes the drive train. Those drivers lucky enough to secure a position on the grid will use a 6 speed sequential SADEV gearbox to bang through the cogs, ultimately putting the power to the ground through a permanent four-wheel drive with two LSD differentials.
“Add to that double wishbone suspension all round with OHLINS TTX adjustable dampers, 330 mm ventilated brake discs with 4 pistons brake calipers and 8”x17” lightweight MOTEGI RACING wheel rims all wrapped up in a high performance composite plastic exterior and interior body and you know that there will be a big queue to get behind the wheel of these amazing machines.
“We took well known Australian rally ace, Jack Monkhouse to the States for a test last year and it blew his mind,” said David.
You can check out Jack’s reaction and watch his test drive below.
Other than being an amazing drive there are a number of other things that will appeal to drivers and teams looking to jump on board a sport that will have a bright future.
“For drivers, parity is important and because all cars competing in the Supercar Lites category are built in the same factory, the championship will highlight driver skill ensuring that the cream rises to the top,” David remarked.
To ensure the longevity of the sport in Australia and to help teams build a valuable asset, the team at SIDCROME EXTREME Rallycross is capping the total number of Supercar Lite team franchises at 10.
“When you purchase a SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross franchise, you get much more than just an extreme machine that’s fast and rewarding to drive. You’re are also creating a future with an opportunity to create a professional team, build a business and increase the equity in your initial investment,” explained David.
“The franchise agreement we have put in place ensures your investment retains value and continues to grow. Rallycross is the future of motor racing in Australia and, as such offers unlimited commercial opportunities for the smart team owner, driver and sponsor alike.
“The championship has been designed to cultivate passionate fans between the ages of 16-30. Our theory is to start them young and keep them for life,” he added.
Accounting for 13% of the total household expenditure in Australia, they are responsible for spending $62 billion yearly.
“Many motorsport categories have tried to engage this fickle, yet extremely important target market with little success. The SIDCHROME EXTREME Rallycross Championship is perfectly positioned to buck the trend and get your sponsors brands in front of these eyeballs by delivering the fast paced, extreme experiences they crave.”
