A number of initiatives and other changes have occurred within Silverstone Events and its premium rallies, the Classic Adelaide Rally and SunCoast Classic Rally.
Mal Hemmerling has agreed to take up the position of Executive Chairman of the company, while David Edwards, will remain as the proprietor of the Silverstone Company and will focus on new business opportunities and the marketing of Silverstone Events.
In view of these recent changes and unavoidable delays in finalising the new company and structure in place, the SunCoast Classic - scheduled for June 2008 - has been postponed until 2009.
“This decision has not been taken lightly,” an event release stated. “We received glowing reports from councils, regulatory bodies and competitors on the running of our inaugural Aeromil SunCoast Classic Rally in 2007 and it was a credit to all involved.
“The event was well received by the public and our aim is to provide competitors and spectators with an even bigger and better event in 2009,” it stated. “A number of new initiatives will be announced over the coming year. We are seeking additional roads for the special stages of the SunCoast Classic Rally to enhance the event.”
Meanwhile, the Classic Adelaide Rally, which commences on November 19, 2008, will again showcase the cream of classic rally cars. Ivar Stanelis has been appointed as the new Clerk of Course and comes on board with fresh ideas and exciting initiatives which will cement the event’s mantle as “one of the world’s great rallies”.
