For every fan following the East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship the title of this story will be enough to get you excited!

While remaining tight lipped on the details Simon Evans has confirmed that he’s extremely confident of being a part of the outright fight for the 2014 title against the likes of Scott Pedder, Brendan Reeves and his own brother Eli Evans.

“It’s not an absolute certainty but it’s looking very, very good for next year,” said Simon, remaining coy on exactly what he would be driving and for whom.

Rumours have circulated for the past 18 months that four times Australian Rally Champion Evans was on the verge of a comeback, but as quickly as they have started the rumours have quickly died away.

Simon though confirmed that talks have been going on behind the scenes, and while a lot of details remain to be finalized he’s feeling confident enough to feel that he’ll be fighting the sport’s best from the first Round next year.

“I definitely want to be out there fighting for the Championship,” he said. “I can say we’re very, very close to finalizing our future for next year. I haven’t signed anything yet or have a car in the workshop yet, but it feels pretty close.”

Speculation in Queensland suggested that Evans may be looking to form a two-car team with Justin Dowel, and it’s a suggestion that makes sense.

Evans and Dowel are good friends, and Evans regularly provides Dowel with suggestions and advice on car setup and driving style. In addition Sue Evans offered guidance from the co-drivers seat by joining Dowel in Queensland.

It’s a tantalizing prospect but with details unclear at this stage it may be a waiting game to see exactly what eventuates over the coming months – stay tuned!
