Victorian rally driver, Glen Raymond, has been impressive in this year’s Australian Rally Championship, in which he drove a Toyota Corolla. To finish off a great season, Raymond has been nominated for the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) Motor Sport Personality of the Year.

This award recognises competitors who are excellent ambassadors for Australian motor sport through their conduct both on and off the track. The competitors must not only be personable, but be a good role model and a fair competitor. Previous winners of the award include V8 Supercar driver, Craig Lowndes and TV personality and racer, Grant Denyer.

“To be classified as one of Australian Motor Sport’s personalities is awesome,” stated an enthused Raymond. “And being recognised as a fair competitor and good role model is something I’m really excited with.”

Sixteen other motor sport drivers from different racing genres have also been nominated, with the winner to be chosen through a public voting system on the internet.

It has been a big season for the Raymond Partners Accountants Rally Team, who in a sea of big budget teams, have shown that skill and determination can see them at the top of Australia’s competition. As well as two podium finishes for the year, the highlight was a recent second Outright in the last heat of the Championship held in Coffs Harbour.

The team has been able to come away with fifth outright in the series, a feat Raymond knows can not be done without assistance. “With some great help from friends and family, and our fantastic sponsors, the dream of competing at Australia’s top level is coming true,” said a thankful Raymond.

To vote for Glen Raymond as the CAMS Motor Sport Personality of the year, log onto his website and follow the link to cast your vote. Voting closes 17:00 Friday 28th November.

Raymond can also be seen on Channel TEN on Sunday, November 29 at 12pm during the hour long rally review of the Coffs Coast Rally.
