In partnership with fellow BOSCH Australian Rally Championship competitor Mick Patton, Coppin hired a closed section of forest for a private test. Both crews successfully completed the test without any problems.
“Today was really about working on set up as this will be the second time I have actually driven the car in the forest”. Coppin said.
“But we still don’t have a whole lot of power, so I’m going to need to drive it like its stolen to be competitive” he added.
After an impressive result in the treacherous conditions at Rally Calder, where he finished 3rd in the 2WD Championship, but missed out on qualifying for the RallySchool.com.au Australian Junior Rally Challenge by half a second, Coppin is keen to take up the challenge again at IRoQ
“I’m not sure who the competition will be as the entry list isn’t released yet but there are some quick guys running in the Queensland series, so I will have to be on my A game to win” Coppin said. “But I am still hopeful that I can get the job done either at the Brakes Direct International Rally of Queensland or Scouts Rally SA in July”.
The team is hoping that a return to the more traditional forest stages will see the effects of a lack of power in the Group N Fiesta minimised. The RallySchool.com.au Junior Australian Rally Challenge is a more difficult completion this year with only the winners of the 2WD and 4WD categories going to the final in October of the Coffs Coast.
The Brakes Direct International Rally of Queensland, round 3 of the BOSCH Australian Rally Championship takes place from May 25 to 27 at Caloundra, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
In addition to its normal sponsors, Inklab Design Studio, Shannons Insurance ACT, Landscape Direct, Total Traction Service, Penrite Oil, OntheGo the team has been joined by Pacific Ford from Maroochydore especially for the Sunshine Coast event.
