RED World Rally Team principal Neil Gatt has moved to underline his team’s commitment to providing Super 2000 rally cars at the price dictated by the sport’s governing body.

Gatt’s comments come in the wake of an interview with World Rally Championship commercial boss David Richards, in which Richards stated that the costs involved with Super 2000 rally cars were spiraling out of control.

Gatt said: "David is right in that some Super 2000 manufacturers are blatantly ignoring the FIA guidelines, which have been implemented to control costs by setting the price at €168,000. I’ve heard that a couple of other manufacturers who have S2000 cars ready are charging between €240,000 and €270,000 for a rally ready car. But that’s certainly not the case with RED.

“The Toyota S2000 Alister McRae drove on Rally GB would be available to anybody for €168,000 – the price governed by the FIA. And for that money, Alister demonstrated that the car was more than capable of living with world-class Group N competition. More than that, he set four fastest category times – the first time this was ever done by a Super 2000 car at WRC level.”
