Targa High Country is preparing to acknowledge a significant milestone from November 8 to 10.
The tarmac rally, that uses the uniquely challenging alpine roads, will celebrate its first decade since joining the blossoming Targa family.
Based at the resort of Mount Buller, just over 200km north-east of Melbourne, the event has become an integral part of the Targa schedule.
Significantly, Targa High Country is only the second true Targa event to make 10 years alongside its illustrious older brother Targa Tasmania, which turns 30 in 2021.
Competitors have reacted strongly to be involved in the milestone event which on course to top its previous entry record.
In the inaugural year, High Country was the first Targa event to be held outside of Tasmania which attracted 204 entries.
“It has been a successful journey for the event with at least 165 cars turning up to all nine of the events held so far,” Targa chief executive Mark Perry said.
“For many years, the motor sport fraternity assumed that you simply could not get a true multi-stage tarmac rally approved in Victoria.
“The event has an impeccable safety record, and has thrilled many thousands of people in Mansfield each year with the annual Super Street Stage and Targafest and this year will be no different.”
“This year will see a record field come together for an historic event.
“Targa High Country surprised many when it was launched nearly ten years ago and continues to excite thousands of people each year.”
“For the first time a special dinner will be held at Mansfield at the foot of the Alps with all key people who worked at Mount Buller, police and the town’s council invited for a reunion celebration.
“All of the people who had a part in making it happen, many of whom have moved on to other things have been invited as a bit of a reunion.”
Now acting as the finale for the four-round CAMS Australian Targa Championship for the second year, High Country plays an even more important role on the calendar.
The event is pivotal to the national championship with eight of the 10 classes within the CAMS Australian Targa regulations up for grabs.
The ever popular 3.62km Street Stage and TargaFest is scheduled to be held at Mansfield from 3pm on Saturday, November 9.
