Targa High Country, Victoria’s premier tarmac rally, will be expanded in 2014, providing competitors with another day of competition and more stages than its historical two-day format.

Friday, November 9, will now be a full day of rallying, introducing stages never used before by taking advantage of the brilliant road network in Victoria’s north-east.

The six stages on Friday will be followed by the 16 stages that have been used on the Saturday and Sunday since the event’s inception in 2010, taking competitors on the brilliant roads north to Whitfield, and east to Jamieson.

Adam-SpenceThe event remains based at Mt Buller, taking advantage of one of the best tarmac rally roads in the country from Mirimbah to the top of the mountain’s village.

“What we have developed is a three-day, 22 stage event that we think will have great competitor appeal and provide a better bang-for-the-buck experience,” said event director, Mark Perry.

“By expanding the Friday program, competitors will get another five stages of rallying for the same time commitment at the event.

“We are very excited about the potential of Targa High Country.

“Mansfield - Mt Buller is a great place to host the event. It’s close to Melbourne and pretty easy for people to get themselves and their car to, and the roads are absolutely brilliant.

“We also get great support from everyone in Mansfield and Mt Buller for what is a pretty spectacular street stage.”

2014 will be the fifth running of Targa High Country. It is anticipated that over 200 cars and crews will take part in the event.
