Team Punto has won the inaugural Alternative Fuel Vehicles class at the Adelaide Tarmac Rally with clean, green BioMaxâ„¢ biodiesel.

Championing environmentally friendly racing, team driver Phil Buggee said he was ecstatic with winning the inaugural class and finishing 11th outright in a starting field of 59.

“Coming to Adelaide, we thought that we’d be very competitive following our Targa Tasmania diesel class win and 3rd place in the 2WD Showroom class,” Mr Buggee said.

“To finish 11th out of 59, against Ferraris, Porches and Subaru WRXs, in our fuel efficient 1.9L turbo diesel Fiat Punto, using only 55 litres of BioMax™ B20 biodiesel for the 650km event, is a great environmental and racing result,” he said.

Phil also believes that there is huge scope for alternative fuel powered vehicles to compete in Australian tarmac rally events.

“With our recent success at Targa Tasmania and now in Adelaide, I wouldn’t be surprised if the category attracted more competitors,” he said

BioMaxâ„¢ B20 is a blend of 20 per cent biodiesel mixed with mineral diesel that reduces CO2 emissions by 15 per cent. It also exceeds the Australian diesel fuel standard under the Fuel Quality Standards Act 2000.

Made by Smorgon Fuels, BioMaxâ„¢ biodiesel is a renewable fuel predominantly made from used cooking oil, along with animal fats (tallow) and canola oil.
