Plans are being put in place to ensure September's popular Targa Great Barrier Reef event goes ahead as scheduled.
Organisers have extended the early bird entries as the situation around COVID-19 continues to unfold.
"We are hopeful the new social distancing measures put in place by the Government will reduce the spread of the virus and help flatten the curve, so we can reopen our borders as soon as possible," Targa Great Barrier Reef organisers have said.
"In the last week, we have spoken with the Queensland Government, Cairns Council and our loyal competitors to determine whether pushing the event date back by a couple of months would be beneficial given the current climate, but the overwhelming support was to leave the date in September.
"With this in mind, we will continue to move forward with the scheduled September dates whilst regularly reviewing the situation in relation to government instructions/regulations as it progresses."
The early bird entries have been extended until May 15th.
