The Team Racetune Services Motorsport Ford Mk 1 Escort of Reg Marratt and Matthew Woods survived mechanical dramas on the final leg of the Aeromil Pacific Classic Adelaide Rally to finish 5th in the Classic Competition Section (for vehicles built between 1948 and 1971).

An alternator mounting bolt had become loose on the road section following SS29, resulting in a nasty noise, but fortunately the problem was rectified at the Strathalbyn morning tea break.

“We got a bit worried when it started to make a strange noise, but luckily it didn’t happen on a stage and the crew were on hand to deal with it,” explained driver and team owner Reg Marratt.

“The service crew did a fantastic job throughout the event.  We found a crack in the exhaust manifold but they soon had that sorted too.”

From there it was simply a matter of completing the remaining four stages before returning to East Terrace in the city for the ceremonial finish.

The Team Racetune Services Motorsport Escort was also a clear winner in class 4C3B with 16 minutes 52.7 seconds in overall penalties, compared to second in class Rob and Ben Van Wegen (1968 BMW 2002) who finished 28th in Classic Competition on 33 minutes 2.7 seconds worth of penalties.  The 1970 Alfa Romeo 105 of Angus Sobels and Chris Morrison were thrid in class and 45th in Classic Competition with over 5 hours in accrued penalties due to earlier mechanical difficulties.

The team also finished 14th in the Heritage which takes into account all the competing categories including Late Classic, as well as being the first Ford Escort home and first car with an engine capacity under 2 litres.

Team Racetune Services Motorsport would like to thank the many businesses and individuals who have supported the team.  These include Racetune Services, Revolution Racegear Adelaide, Bob Jane T-Marts Modbury, Green Welding Specialists, Bunker Freight Lines, Road & Track Dyno, Heavylec Electrical, Autosport and of course the dedicated band of volunteers that are the service crew.

The Team Racetune Services Escort carried CanTeen logos throughout the event and the service crew were out and about selling merchandise and collecting donations in order to raise funds for CanTeen in support of Young People Living with Cancer.
