Simon Evans has won every stage of the Capital Rally of Canberra, and has maintained his perfect record of winning every Heat in the 2007 NEC Australian Rally Championship.
Driving his Group N (P) Toyota Corolla, Evans, with co-driver wife Sue, backed up their performance in Heat 1 to take a 58.5 second victory over their team-mates, Neal Bates and Coral Taylor, in a brand new Super 2000 Toyota Corolla.
After his rollover on the first day, Evans’ brother, Eli, returned to the forests today and quickly set about rectifying his woes from yesterday. Showing little effects from the roll, his car was once again fast and he finished the day in third place in the Capital Rally.
Privateers dominated all but the top two placings after the demise of both Super 2000 Ford Fiestas during the day. Team leader Michael Guest suffered major power steering problems and retired after four stages, while team-mate Darren Windus didn’t quite make it that far. His Fiesta expired with engine problems.
Spencer Lowndes (Mitsubishi) completed a great comeback to the ARC by finishing fourth in Heat 2, ahead of Will Orders and Brendan Reeves in Subarus, and Kelvin Croker in a Mitsubishi.
The next round of NEC Australian Rally Championship is the Toyota Rally of South Australia, in August.
