After the normal pre-event long nights, the team at Page Brothers Motorsport had a successful debut of their newly acquired Toyota Corolla at the International Rally of Queensland.

The number one goal was to qualify for the Junior Challenge; and despite tough competition from the Fiesta of Steve Mackenzie and the always sideways Skyline of Cameron Sluce, this goal was achieved.

“With very little testing in an unfamiliar car, we had a bit of a push on Saturday morning and I was very surprised. I was always within a second per kilometre of Steve, in front of Sluce and at times in front of the VW of Patton and the 370Z of Nic Box. I couldn’t be happier as I know I had a lot in reserve and the car has more to give yet,” explained Luke.

The team are very pleased with the car and its pace given the weekend was completed running on the standard ECU. Only minor setbacks were encountered on the weekend and the whole crew handled them extremely well.

“We had three punctures on the weekend, one I know was my own fault but the other two I’m a bit lost with; bit of bad luck maybe. The only other drama was a rear strut top failing, the boys were never pressured and had everything sorted within the 45 minute service at the end of Saturday, I couldn’t thank them enough”.

With both Steve Mackenzie and Cameron Sluce encountering problems on the Saturday, the team approached the stages on Sunday with the goal to finish and learn more about the car.

“With the finish on Sunday we definitely ticked all the boxes for the weekend. For our first run in the car it’s great to have a lot more potential for speed and be racing against some of the VW’s and beating the R2 spec fiesta”.

Now the focus of the team will be on the final of the RallySchool.com.au Junior Challenge at Rally Victoria.

The team would like to offer their deepest condolences to the family of Co-Driver Jamie McIntosh and wish a speedy recovery to driver Grant Brecknell after the incident at the rally.
