A touring road event for cars and motorcycles is being planned to bring enthusiasts to see the FIA World Rally Championships at Coates Hire Rally Australia in September.
The non-competitive event, called the Southern Cross Touring Road Event (TRE), would bring participants from Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales to the Coffs Coast in time for the rally on 11-14 September.
Organisers are currently calling on potential entrants to register their interest via the TRE Link on the Rally Australia website www.rallyaustralia.com.au
The inaugural Southern Cross Touring Road Event is planned to start simultaneously from Victoria and Queensland on Friday, 5 September. All overnight stops will be in NSW and each day's run will cover between 300 km and 500 km.
The route will include roads-now sealed- used in the long-distance car trials and forest rallies of times past. These sealed roads, plus some delightfully tricky side loops, would also be an attraction for touring bike riders.
The run resumes on Monday morning through inland NSW, taking in some of the States, most picturesque roads en route to a final overnight stop at Dorrigo on Wednesday September 10.
The touring event will finish in Coffs Harbour on Thursday 11 September, but there will be many more activities to enjoy as the participants join the excitement of the World Rally Championship event.
A VIP Enthusiasts Package provided by rally organisers includes and invitation for TRE crews to take part in some of Rally Australia's schedule of events including the Rally Show on Thursday afternoon. Other benefits in the package include a 3-Day WRC Rally Super Pass for each crew member and a dedicated vehicle display site at the Hi-Tech Oils Service Park.
