Talented and respected motorsport photographer, Tim Jones, was tragically killed in a light plane crash while covering the Sydney-Hobart yacht race on December 29.

Tim JonesThe official photographer of Targa events through his Hobart business, Perfect Prints, Tim’s work has become nationally acclaimed over the years.

Having worked closely with Tim for many years at Targa Tasmania and other events, his professionalism, attention to detail and quality of work always came to the fore.

But more than that, Tim was a fantastic bloke, a friend and work colleague who’ll be sadly missed.

Tributes for the 61-year old have flooded Facebook and other social media, including the tribute below from Targa Australia’s Mark Perry.

Rest in peace Tim. You’ll be sadly missed.

Vale - Tim Jones

It was with much shock and sadness that we heard the news of Tim Jones being the photographer aboard a light plane photographing the Sydney to Hobart yachts when they unfortunately crashed into deep water at around 6.15pm Monday.

Tim and his team from Perfect Prints have snapped literally tens of thousands of pictures of Targa Tasmania cars and all of the amazing people that have been a part of the event since 1992.

Tim's passion for Targa is without peer and he personally spent a great part of his life ensuring that our images were world class and it was these images that helped greatly in establishing Targa Tasmania as the world's Ultimate Tarmac Rally.

Tim's images are proudly displayed in the homes of thousands of competitors across the country and around the world; memories of their Targa experiences to enjoy forever.

It is these images that all members of the Targa family will have to ensure fond memories of Tim remain with us always.

Our sincere condolences go to Tim's family and friends.

Plans to acknowledge and remember Tim's valued contribution to Targa and motor sport will be announced at an appropriate time.

Sincerely
Mark Perry
Event Director
