The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) has presented the Marysville and District Lions Club Inc. with a cheque for $28,850 in support of those affected by the Victorian bushfires.

The money was raised as part of the CAMS Bushfire Support Appeal to assist the communities, including those of many CAMS members, which have been impacted by the devastating fires that claimed the lives, homes and security of many Victorians.

The Lions club will put the money raised towards its two catering vans which are available for use by clubs in the community, including CAMS affiliated clubs and motor sport activities in the area. The catering vans are equipped with all the major appliances found in a commercial kitchen and can be used to serve anything from snack food to three-course meals.

Marysville and District Lions Club member Neil Guscott was extremely thankful for the donation.

“On behalf of the club, I’d like to say a big thank you. This will be a tremendous asset to the community and will be put to very good use,” Guscott said.

“We encourage all car clubs to come to Marysville and get in touch with us.”

The Victorian Rally Panel contributed a significant amount to the appeal, having held close ties to Marysville which has played host to several motor sport activities, particularly rallying, in the past.

Many clubs, such as the Nissan Car Club, Historic Rally Association and the Ford Four Car Club, have organised events in this area over a long period of time.

CAMS CEO Graham Fountain thanked everyone who contributed to the appeal.

“It is wonderful to see CAMS members and the motor sport community come together to support those in need.

“When the bushfire devastation of Marysville became apparent, as a sport we wanted to put something back into the town that has been very supportive to motor sport over many years,” said Fountain.

“This area has been a key venue for the sport which we hope will continue in the future after the recovery and rehabilitation phase has concluded.
