Two Victorian crews have ventured south for the weekend to compete in round 2 of the Tasmanian Rally Series.

The Armour Timber and Hardware Hellyer Rally boasts 22 entries with the two entries from Mcintyre/Eccles in a Toyota Celica and Subaru shod King/Zinstagg. Only time will tell how they handle the cool Tasmanian winter evenings in the Circular Head area of the Island.

Two former state champions and previous Hellyer Rally winners have come out of retirement to compete in the North West Car Clubs premier event of the year with both Lyn Rattray and Craig Brooks trying to get their hands on the “Vic Huddlestone Cup” that is awarded to the outright winners of the time honoured Hellyer Rally.

They will be pushed all the way by new young hotshot and current series leader, Marcus Walkem in his very quick Mitsubishi evo and Targa winner Jason White also in an earlier version of the brand.

The battle of the 2 wheel drives will be one to watch with Kade Barrett in the “Fire Arrow” Darren Clark in the very quick and well sorted RX7, Stuart Rattray in his VL Commodore that now sports some forced induction and Ben Sheldrick that has been on the sidelines for a while now in the thundering V8 VK Commodore along with the sound of sprintcar ace Ashley House in his Dad’s BMW E30 will be one to listen for long before it gets to the spectator points.

For the first time in the history of the Tasmanian Rally Championship and the now named Tasmanian Rally Series,  two father and son combinations will compete against each other with

Lyn Rattray in the Subaru and Stuart Rattray in his VL taking the challenge up to Andrew Wylie and Kurt Wylie in identical Subaru WRX’s. Lyn and Stuart are the Local Pirtek Dealers and are long supporters of the Hellyer rally and indeed the North West Car Club. The Wylie family will go head to head in their twin Subaru’s displaying numbers 5 and 55.
