Gerard Marcy led the Kenya Airways East African Safari Classic Rally in his Porsche 911 during the third day of the event.
Marcy had widened his lead over Bjorn Waldegård in the Ford Escort by 30 seconds, but then struck problems and lost more than ten minutes to Waldegård. He still holds second place.
Waldegård's co-driver, his son Mathias, bruised his back after a massive jump on the first section and needed attention at the ensuing service.
Australians Graham Alexander and Ross Runnalls dropped from fifth to eighth in their Datsun 260Z.
