Honda Australia has entered British Rally Champion, Guy Wilks, in the Allied Air-Conditioning/Daikin Coffs Coast Rally.

The entry by Wilks will be Honda’s second endeavor at rallying in Australia, with a view to compete in the full ARC calendar in 2009.  It is a major show of support for the Australian Rally Championship.

Wilks, with Phil Pugh as co-driver, will again drive the JAS Motorsport-built Group R Civic Type R. Mugen and JAS will assist Honda in the final ARC round.

Honda Australia’s Managing Director, Mr. Yasuhide Mizuno said that although rallying provided significant challenges for the two-wheel drive Type R against a field dominated by four-wheel drives, Honda was looking forward to finishing off a great year of racing.

“Honda generated a lot of interest with the Civic Type R at the Rally of Canberra earlier in the year, as we were competing against the four-wheel drive turbos with our two-wheel drive production car. If everything works out in Coffs Harbour, we would like to continue in the 2009 season and prove that Honda is serious about racing in Australia,” Mr. Mizuno said.

The Coffs Coast Rally will commence with a ceremonial start in the city centre on Friday, November 14. The stages will take place on November 15 and 16, with the main service park at BCU Stadium. Further details can be found at www.coffscoastrally.com.au
