Adelaide is set to host some of the finest motorcars ever produced, on a course rated as world class, when the opening round of the CAMS Australian Targa Championship comes to town on Wednesday, August 22.

Not only will classic cars be in action at Supaloc Targa Adelaide but modern cars – including some of the finest performance cars in the world from manufacturers like Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi and Nissan – will make their debut in the event.

The rally starts with a new night stage on that Wednesday, allowing motorsport fans to see a spectacular show of modern and classic cars on a technically challenging three kilometre stage around the Wayville Showgrounds.

Those living in the Hills, or looking to get out amongst it, will have unrivalled access to stages to see the cars in full flow on the testing stages.

The series Sport Director, Stuart Benson, says the course is one of the best for any tarmac rally in the world.

“The Targa concept in Australia started with an event in Tasmania 21 years ago, and I’ve no doubt the Adelaide event can enhance our reputation for this country running the best tarmac rally series in the world,” Benson said.

“2011 was the first time we ran a Targa in South Australia, and this year we’ve had the time to refine the course, add an inner-city night stage and made it one day longer.

“Not only will the event be the envy of most around the world, it will be a great test of driver and car for those that have entered from around Australia.

“The roads are magnificent and the event has the unique advantage of being able to operate right out of a major population centre, because of the proximity of the course to the city centre.

“Without doubt, Adelaide’s ability to host an event like this is unrivalled anywhere in the world.”

Pre-event favourite to win the modern title, Jason White, will race his 2011 Lamborghini Gallardo in the event.

“I’m probably looking forward to this event more than I’ve looked forward to any event for quite a while,” White said.

“It’s certainly a new challenge, and I’m hoping all the guys have a trouble-free run and we can put on a great show.”
