Stephen Eccles (16) from Hastings in Victoria will contest the opening round of the Grant Walker Parts Excel Rally Championship after eagerly awaiting a decision from ARCom.
At 16 years of age, Eccles will be the youngest competitor to compete against some of the state's best rally crews. Although only 16, Eccles has been involved in motorsport all his life, with his father, Paul Eccles, being a regular competitor in the Victorian rally series over the years.
Stephen became actively involved behind the wheel from the age of 14, competing in the Victorian Club Autocross Series.
Having gained an exemption to compete on his learner licence from ARCom and CAMS, Stephen and experienced co-driver, Alan Mackay, will be out to gain some valuable seat time in the opening round of the 2013 Grant Walker Parts Excel Rally Series.
Stephen commented: "After hearing the news from ARCom, I was excited to be given the opportunity to be able to compete. Thankfully having Alan Mackay in the co-driver's seat will be a great advantage, with many years experience in the sport. "
With support from Menace Motorsport, Liquid Controls and Same Day Printing, Eccles hopes to compete in several rounds of the Grant Walker Parts Excel Series, whilst still competing actively in the Victorian Club Autocross Series, where young Eccles currently leads the 2013 juniors championship.
The Berwick Volkswagen Blue Rock Stages will be run on April 20 comprising of 160km competitive kilometres in the Willow Grove area.
