With 16 Hyundai cars entered, including 15 Excels and one Hyundai I30 diesel in the Eco Challenge. The competition will lift to new levels. Joining the regular Victorian competitors will be the best that New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory have to offer.
The competition at the head of the Hyundai series field will be tight, with the Victorians of Leigh Garrioch (Former Australian Rally F16 champion), Steven Mackenzie (Currently leading the 2010 Victorian Hyundai Genuine Parts Rally series) and Tony Moore (2009 Vic Excel Champion) all keen to take the National Hyundai Series Cup and State of Origin trophy back from the New South Welshmen of Dave Roberts (2010 NSW Rallyschool Hyundai series Champion) and Matt Cullen and the ACT crews of Fro Horobin (Defending his 2009 National Hyundai Series Cup) and Adrian Coppin.
In a unique Rally Victoria initiative, all 14 Hyundai series cars will be running in one group. The action is expected to come thick and fast to provide a unique display for the spectators. Â
Excel Rally stalwart John Carney said that spectators will be able to see how competitive these little cars are and just how close the competition really is.
The full field of Excel Rally Series cars are based on a standard Hyundai Excel X3 with the only modifications allowed for safety and suspension; the engines, transmissions and brakes are all standard as delivered from the Hyundai factory. Â
Despite the distinct lack of modifications, the performance of these little cars give many of the more fancied competitors, in expensive highly modified vehicles, quite a cause for concern.
The second great initiative of Rally Victoria organisers is having all the Hyundai teams grouped together in one service area at the spectacular Lardner Park Rally Headquarters in Warragul. Â
Now the public can inspect the cars and see just how close and friendly the Hyundai competition is. So come down and say hello and look at the best thing to happen to rallying in Australia since the invention of the motor vehicle!
