The recently appointed Clerk of Course of the Bega Valley Rally 2009, Tom Snooks, met with various organisations and people in Bega early in July.

Following discussions with the Bega Valley Shire Council representatives, Mayor Cr Tony Allen and Doug Mein, Director of Engineering Services, and with Robert Hayson, Chairman of the Bega Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Shire appointed Business Council, a proposal will be submitted to the council board for its consideration for the rally to be conducted over the long-weekend in June 2009 (13th to 15th).

The proposal, based on the plans developed by the Clerk of Course, Graham Roser, of the previous 12 Bega Valley Rallies, for the cancelled 2008 event, will be considered by the board at its September meeting. These plans include the use of a number of stages on shire roads around Bega, together with forest stages near Eden.

Snooks also held discussions with a number of car club members in Canberra with a view to securing committed officials’ support from the national capital, in view of its relative closeness to Bega.

The proposal includes applications to the New South Wales and Victorian Rally Panels for the event to be a round of the relative State Rally Championships, and inclusion of the Excel Series of both states.
