The Prodrive-prepared MINI John Cooper Works WRC has run faultlessly all day, but Sordo was unable to gain ground on the cars ahead of him with all the lead cars having a trouble-free day on the hard compound Michelin tyre through the day's seven stages.

Dave Wilcock, Prodrive WRC Team principal, said: "The first loop of stages today were new to the rally and Dani found it very difficult to have confidence in his notes to get into a good rhythm. Sometimes he felt he was not pushing enough and at others he was overdriving.  His confidence grew considerably this afternoon on the second loop and he began to set some much better times, particularly on the last couple of stages. Tomorrow there are only 60km of stages, but we are expecting very heavy rain and we are one of the few leading cars with a full set of soft tyres. Unless cars ahead have problems, a podium is unlikely but our target now is on taking fourth place."

Dani Sordo said: "Today was better than yesterday, but this morning the stages were new and I didn't get a good feeling for them. This afternoon was much better and I was able to fight a little more so I am a little more happy. On the last stage I think I lost maybe four or five seconds when I was blinded by the low sun so it could have been even better. The car is running really really well and tomorrow I will push. I have soft Michelin tyres so we will see what we can do."

Day three sees a further seven stages over 61 km, including the final powerstage.
