The opening nighttime superspecial stage on this year’s Rally Argentina, round five of the WRC, will not be held this year in Cordoba, as planned, but run instead in downtown Villa Carlos Paz, the headquarters town of the rally. The change was forced on the organisation becuase of building work on the originally planned route. = = = = The Rally d’Abruzzo becomes the final event in the TER series to be announced this year. It will run September 8/9 based at Teramo, not far from Pescara. Organiser, and former competitor Max Rendina, said: “We wish to promote this territory after the seismic events.” TER events this year are to be held in Romania, France, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland. = = = = =

Leftovers last week … opening round of the FIA regional Codasur Rally, the Trans Itapua in Paraguay, was won by the Hyundai i20 R5 of Diego Dominguez, heading the Skoda Fabia R5s of Gustava Saba and Miguel Zaldivar. Top Group N car was the Mitsubishi of Roberto Saba. Next round will be run concurrently with the WRC Rally Argentina. Heavy storms created problems for the official Shakedown ... Polish born, Chicago resident Piotr Fetela, won the second round of the Rally America series, the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, in a Ford Fiesta Proto, three minutes ahead of Timothy Rooney’s Subaru based PMR Motorsport SR009 ... While Donagh Kelly gained his fifth win on the Quality Hotel West Cork Rally, the highest placed Irish tarmac championship finisher was Fiesta R5 driver Josh Moffett, who took maximum points in the FIA’s Celtic Rally Trophy category. = = = = Opening round of the Italian national championship was the Rally Il Ciocco e Valle del Serchio, providing another win for Paulo Andreucci’s Peugeot 208T16. Japanese trainee drivers Takamoto Katsuta and Hiroki Arai finished fourth and sixth. = = = = Halftime positions at the Czech championship Kowax Valašská Rally ValMez saw the Skoda of Jan Kopecky ahead Vaclav Pech’s Fiesta and the Skoda of Ole Christian Veiby. The opening round in Hungary was the Credobus Eger Rallye, being led by the Fiesta RS of András Hadik.
