To get to the end of a special stage safely requires a well organised partnership between driver and co-driver, and we’re certain that without Monit’s rally computers, competitors across the globe would be worse off.
Tripmeters have been around since rallying’s inception, with the measurement of distance essential for crews to be able to navigate the roads ahead on time, and with the speed required to win.
From the top of the sport with Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team, to the club competitor in Australia or New Zealand, Monit’s gear is essential and easy to understand.
Knowing this, it was a case of borrowing one of Monit’s products for our Ford Fiesta’s first event.
We knew one had to be ours to keep, but time constraints meant a borrowed one would have to suffice for the first event to begin.
After this short-lived run, our minds were set on the necessity of one for ourselves.
So, we got our hands on our own and had one of the key elements locked away.
We decided to choose the Monit G200+ rally computer, the class leader. It’s myriad of features would help us over many years in the sport we so love.
Then, as we increased our preparations for event number two, reconnaisance was where the Monit product’s flexibility and ease of use helped immensely.

There’s that word again – ease. It’s what we found in spades when dealing with the G200+ for the first time.
We didn’t understand the model’s features in-depth, nor did we have experience using it, but its intuitive design made for easy use.
On recce, we had our Monit G200+ set to measure distances between corners on stage. Then, the cumulative distance meant transports were easy to follow on our way to the next special stage.
Equipped with accessories to make our lives easier, resetting the unit was easy and we knew with complete confidence that it was 60 metres to the next corner, not 100.
So, as we tidied our notes for the following day’s rally, we knew consistency was there.
After using the device in recce, it was simply a case of unplugging and moving the Monit to the rally car – a one minute task that was almost too good to be true.
It was the perfect recce aid, and was then in its place ready for the real rally action in an instant.
The 21st century design and ease of use far outweighs the benefits of any other tripmeter option.
Monit’s fantastic G200+ was key for our build, and there’s no doubt it will be there for the remainder of events the car completes.
Having used the best from the start, it won’t be a question of ‘what tripmeter’ we’re recommending to others, it will be the question of ‘which Monit’, moving forward.
