The 2011 Shannons Insurance ACT Rally Series gets back under way this weekend with crews travelling to Peter Rogers Real Estate Bathurst Rally, this Saturday.
The Bathurst Rally is round 3 of the 5 round series with the event also doubling up with the NSW State Championship. With series leader Ben Cullen not entered the door is wide open for Jon Parker and Rus Taylor starting from position 2 to take full advantage and grab maximum points. While Rus holds down 3rd place in the Co-Driver standings a win this weekend would put him in the lead by one point.
The event also sees a return to action for Andrew Buerckner driving his borrowed Mazda MX5, Andrew who is often seen in the co-driver’s seat, has turned his hand to driving in 2011 and is impressing many by holding 1st place in the novice driver category and 2nd in the Silver Cup category.
With many of the outright crews not entering the event, the rally present an opportunity for the smaller but just as competitive 2wd cars to shine, including the Qirks Rally team. Â
Despite a recent fire in Canberra’s industrial area causing an interruption to the teams preparations because they couldn’t get to their team workshop, lead driver Denise Stevens is looking forward to getting back onto the rally tracks and having a run after a 12 month break. But he is going to have stiff competition from his own children, in the brother and sister team of Blake and Amy Stevens in their identical Honda Civic.
The Rally starts in front of the Bathurst Court House in Russell Street at 8am, before the crews tackle over 130km of Shire and forest roads around Bathurst.
