After finishing fifth outright and winning the P5 category in last year’s Australian Rally Championship, Justin Dowel will return for another tilt at the national crown in 2010.

Together with long-time co-driver Matt Lee, Dowel will drive his proven Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX in a six-event program starting in Tasmania this month.

Dowel and Lee made huge gains over the five events that made up last year’s Australian Rally Championship, and they are hoping that familiarity with each other, with the car and of the events, will bring even greater success in 2010.

The new season will see a range of changes to the championship, however, including a new event in Victoria, and a control Kuhmo competition tyre that all competitors must use.

Things will get under way with the only tarmac round of the championship, Rally Tasmania, which will be based in the north west city of Burnie from February 26 to 28.

Dowel and Lee have recently tested their Lancer Evo IX in tarmac trim, and are eagerly looking forward to the new season getting started.
