The Shaw Vineyard Estate Rally Team, consisting of driver Graeme Shaw and co-driver Ray Baker, will be heading to the Sunshine Coast to compete in the Inaugural Suncoast Classic Rally on Thursday,July 5.

Four runs of the Noosa hillclimb set the starting order for Friday’s first competitive stages.

The team, which is based in Murrumbateman (near Canberra) has achieved some good results over the last few years, competing in events such as Targa West, the Mt Buller Sprint and Lake Mountain event.

The trusty silver Lancer Evo 6.5 will be put into action over the demanding stages, with some strong competition coming from the likes of Jim Richards in a Porsche and Grant Denyer, driving a Les Walkden-prepared Subaru.

With such a long event tyre wear will be a crucial factor, and the team are running on the latest Dunlop tarmac rally tyres.  The Lancer has been prepared by Reliance Automotive in Fyshwick (ACT).

“We are hoping for a competitive run, and getting inside the top 20 would be a bonus,” Shaw said.

Ray Baker is usually associated with gravel rallying, but after a chance meeting with Shaw several years ago agreed to have a go at some tarmac events.

There will be daily updates including some in-car footage on Baker’s website www.bakermotorsport.net
