Chris Atkinson attended Rally Finland last week where he completed reconnaissance of the event.

The former Subaru World Rally Team driver told World Rally Radio that he would also do the recce for Rally Germany next week.

Atkinson is desperate to get back into the WRC, but funding has been a problem.

With Sebastien Loeb’s possible move to Volkswagen, the World Rally Radio team asked the Australian about the chances of him taking Loeb’s seat and driving for Citroen.

“What driver wouldn’t want to drive for Citroen,” Atkinson said.

It left listeners none the wiser, but Atkinson’s commitment to make pacenotes of the WRC events means that he has not given up hope of returning to the top level of the sport.

Atkinson recently Tweeted that his hopes of contesting next month's Rally Australia have come to an end.

"Thanks for all the support and help from everyone to try and make Rally Australia happen for me! But unfortunately we have run out of time," he said.

"This doesn't mean we have given up on our WRC dream. And let's get Rally Australia the permanent place on the calendar that it deserves!"
