World Rally Championship driver, Chris Atkinson of Subaru World Rally Team, sold Telstra Rally Australia’s first ticket of the year at the event’s Official Ticket launch on Wednesday 26 July 2006. Keen rally fan, Ric Smit, was first in line when tickets for the final Telstra Rally Australia to be held in Western Australia went on sale at Cloisters Newsagency in Perth. He scored himself an extra large ticket signed and sold by Atkinson, Australia’s only World Rally Championship driver. “The result I achieved at Telstra Rally Australia in 2004 (coming fifth outright), really launched my career, so I look at the event with very fond memories,”
“I encourage all motor sport fans and anyone that likes the atmosphere of a big event to get their tickets so they don’t miss out,” said Atkinson.
Telstra Rally Australia 2006 will be the last chance for Western Australian rally fans to witness the World Rally Championship on their doorstep.
