Queenslander John Spencer has won the Waimate 50 GT Rallysprint in New Zealand, driving a borrowed Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 to an eight second victory over Jeff Judd in a Subaru Impreza.
Other Australians taking part in the event also did well, with Lyndon Galbraith finishing ninth in a Toyota Levin AE86; Daniel Callinan 17th in a Ford Escort RS1800, seven places above his father, Keith, in the same car.
Stewart Reid also drove an Escort BDA and finished 28th.
The entry list also included former Kiwi and now American-based Rod Millen, who drove a Mazda RX7 4WD. Millen only completed two of the six runs before the car broke down.
