Rally Australia could be the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship as early as next year, according to a report in the British media.

Autosport magazine have reported that Wales Rally GB, which is currently the final round, could change dates and run in October, meaning that the Aussie round would be held in November as the final round.

“Rally Australia hosted the season finale in 2004 and '05, during its time in Perth, and its current organisers have been pushing to stage the final round, with a view to holding an end-of-season party in Sydney following the Coffs Harbour rally,” Autosport reports.

Australia has been granted a single-season extension to a three-year deal, which comes to an end later this month.

Rally GB has been held in October before, in 2003 and 2004.

While the carrot of having the last round of the championship will be a big deal for Rally Australia, unfortunately the title is not often decided on the final round - especially when drivers like Loeb and Ogier are concerned.
