Reigning South Australian Rally Champions Russell Marker and Karien Heimsohn have won their second championship after competing in the fourth and final round of the state championship last weekend.

Competing in their Subaru WRX STi, they got their back-to-back victory with a fourth place in the Kuitpo Forest Rally.

The rally was held over two days. Three small stages were held on Saturday evening around ‘Lanac Park’. Marker had been sick all week and was showing the effects by being placed 17th after the three stages.

Sunday’s nine stages were in the Southern Districts of Adelaide in the Kuitpo Forest. Marker/Heimsohn were starting to climb back up the results after the first three stages.

The competition was tight with the top runners. They were all in with a chance to claim the championship. Marker/Heimsohn continued to gain back positions until they were able to maintain 4th position. It was nearly all in vain as 500 metres from the finish in the last stage the turbo blew.

They limped the last 8km back to the final parc ferme while bellowing white smoke from the exhaust. This finish was enough to get them sufficient points to get their second championship.
