The battle for the Australian Rally Championship is set to go down to the wire on the last day of the season as Simon Evans, Molly Taylor and Harry Bates battle it out for the title.

Harry Bates in his Toyota Corolla S2000, is in the box seat. The Canberran finished second on day one and first today, and leads the field.

Molly Taylor, steering a factory Subaru WRX, has again had a consistent run despite struggling at stages in the 30+ degree heat today.

She and co-driver Bill Hayes were forced to drive with the heater on in an effort to cool an overheating engine.

Simon Evans had a difficult run on the second Nambucca test as a double puncture meant the Victorian lost almost 10 minutes.

Evans may be down on the overall standings, but can still get good points for a Sunday heat win.

He will be on a charge, looking to move up the leaderboard.

Behind Bates and Taylor, West Australian Bradley Markovic, Tony Sullens and Tom Clarke round out the top five.

The final day of competition leads the crews north of the rally’s base in Coffs Harbour, with 56km of stages.
