The popular Bega Valley Motors Rally has been cancelled after discussions with the local council could not be finalised.

Clerk of Course Graham Roser was put in a difficult position with Bega Shire Council in relation to Council approval. The event application has been before the Council Traffic Management committee twice without resolution and each time Council imposed further conditions to be complied with before the next meeting.

With the next Council meeting scheduled for May 7, and a final decision not expected until May 22, Roser has decided to cancel the rally, which was due to run on June 8.  The event was to be a round of both the NSW and Victorian Rally Championships, as well as host of the annual State of Origin between competitors from both sides of the border.

The organising team have decided not to invest any more money into the event under these circumstances, however Roser has advised that there are already plans afoot to run the event in 2009.
