WRC rounds in Belgium and Croatia are options for the championship moving forward in the ever-changing 2020 environment.
Amid the release of the five remaining rounds of the series overnight, an overlooked aspect was the option of bringing these two events into the championship.
Belgium's Ypres Rally has, for weeks, been rumoured to return, while Croatia was close to a championship debut some years ago.
The two countries remain as further calendar options if the WRC Promoter sees fit.
There are many variables still to play out for 2020, but these options are not out of the question, with talks with the WRC Promoter continuing to move forward.
“In light of this revised schedule, I am confident we will secure a minimum of eight events this year and this is thanks to the great commitment and work from organisers," FIA Rally Director, Yves Matton said.
Including the three events already held, the five announced overnight meet the minimum requirement of eight events.
It is expected that any cancellations open the door for Belgium or Croatia, as well as a vast improvement in the COVID-19 landscape.
Time will tell whether these countries will, in fact, get their time in the sun.
