The Kumho Future Champions Award is this year being presented to the winners of the Rallyschool.com.au Junior Australian Rally Challenge at each round of the championship.
Dane Berry driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV took the honours in the four wheel drive section of the Junior Challenge while Stephen Turner powered his Falcon XR6 to a win in the two wheel drive section of the series.
The pair have now qualified for the final of the Rallyschool Junior Australian Rally Challenge which will be run as part of the Bosch ARC section of Rally Australia at Coffs Harbour in September, with the respective winners of 2WD and 4WD categories receiving drives and assistance in the final round of the Bosch ARC in November at Rally Victoria.
For winning the Future Champions Award both Berry and Turner each receive
four Kumho rally tyres for use in a future event, the prize having a total value of close to $2000.
Berry, a young driver from the Yarra Valley in Victoria, was co driven by his brother Nathan, the pair taking sixth outright in the tough Queensland rally after a close rally long tussle with Queenslander Trent Page and Canberra's Tristan Kent.
Berry was pleased to have finished at the top of the Rallyschool Junior Challenge 4WD category and to have won the Kumho Future Champions Award.
"We were really impressed with the Kumho's, it was the first time I had used them in a rally although I had tested on them, but they performed brilliantly and I look forward to using some free ones at Coffs Harbour in the shootout," said Dane Berry.
"We actually sell Kumho Tyres in our business, Yarra Valley 4WD, but I had no idea how good they would be in competition, we really appreciate the support Kumho is giving rallying and young rally drivers in particular," he added.
