A huge field of 57 cars will start tomorrow's Westland Rally, the opening round of New Zealand's 2020 Mainland Rally Series.
The rally is being used by many as a shakedown for the first round of the New Zealand Rally Championship at Otago in three week's time and features many of the country's leading drivers.
Josh Marston heads the field in his Holden Barina, with AP4 cars filling the top three positions. Matt Summerfield (Mitsubishi Mirage) and Job Quantock (Skoda Fabia) are next up.
The rally offers crews eight special stages over 106km of competitive distance.
The Mainland Rally Series comprises six events. Rally Otago hosts the second round (Saturday only) with the Canterbury Rally (31st May) the third followed by Rally South Canterbury (20 June) Catlin’s Rally (8 August) and Rally Hanmer (26 September).
