The BP Ultimate Challenge, which was a feature of last year’s Australian Rally Championship, will undergo changes for 2007, with the fuel supplier withdrawing their support for this season.
It is believed that a change in marketing direction at BP has seen them pull out of the series after just one year.
BP had heavily promoted their products during last year’s ARC, with publicity stands, giveaways, competitions and promotional girls all adding to the flavour at events.
A significant amount of interest still remains in the privateer series, which is again expected to run in 2007, albeit without BP sponsorship. It is expected that a similar set of rules will apply, including a control fuel, a 12-tyre limit per event, and with a limited number of events to count.
With a view to meeting the aims of the series, Rallycorp is in negotiation with other fuel suppliers following the fuel tender that was released last year, an official ARC press release stated.
Last year’s BP Challenge was won by Tasmanian driver Simon Jansen.
